Sustainable Floristry
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” — Psalm 24:1
🌿 Green is not always Green

At Easter, Harvest, and Christmas, our churches overflow with flowers and foliage, reminding us that God’s creation is woven into our worship. Jam jars of summer blooms, holly and ivy at Christmas, and autumn’s rich colours all reflect the gifts of imagination and creativity God has given us.
Yet even something as simple as a pedestal of ivy and roses has an unseen impact. Floral foam (oasis) contains as much plastic as 10 shopping bags and breaks down into harmful microplastics. Many shop-bought flowers are flown thousands of miles, leaving a heavy carbon footprint.
As an eco-church, we are exploring sustainable alternatives—using seasonal flowers, greenery from our churchyard, and even roadside “weeds.” These arrangements feel softer, more natural, and remind us of our calling to care for creation, weeds and all.
