A welcoming Light amidst the changing
tides of life
Portishead Church of England is seeking to be a growing, Christ-shaped, pilgrim community, inclusive of all with a bias to the vulnerable…
encouraging a whole life discipleship
expressed by being
- A ministering congregation
- Rooted in the local community
- Agents of health and wholeness
- Engaged with global issues
and all for the greater glory of God.
This new set of priorities to guide our Church for the next five years was formally adopted by the parish at its Annual Meeting in April 2014. A fuller explanation of hopes can be read here.
Changing Lives: Changing Churches for Changing Communities
The diocese of Bath and Wells, which covers the whole of North Somerset, Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset has its own vision for the future growth of the church in this part of the country. This diocesan initiative (referred to as ‘Changing Lives...’ for short) is informing thinking and action in all aspects of ministry and mission. In Portishead, in response to this vision, we are committed to creating a new identity for ourselves as the people of God becoming a “ministering congregation”, supporting and resourcing everyone to have a share in the work of the Kingdom of God. We also recognise that if we are serious about being a Church for our whole town then we need to let go of some of our traditional approaches to, and expectations from, ministry. We need to become a changed Church to respond to the needs of our changing community.
