Mission Statement

Our Vision

Prior to the appointment of the present Team Rector in 2009 the parish agreed the following vision to guide the parish.

Over the next five years in the parish of Portishead we want to:
  • Be a warm, friendly and inclusive Church of individuals, all with a common purpose: growing our spiritual lives in the service of God’s will.
  • Be faithful in worship as a Church family and aspire to be more dynamic and outgoing.
  • Move forward through fellowship, training, teaching and the development of pastoral care.
  • Bring Christ’s reconciliation, blessings and message to every part of our existing and growing community by the witness of our daily lives and the warmth of our support for others, especially those who are suffering, lonely or lost.
Following the appointment of Revd Andy Bryant as Team Rector the parish agreed a Mission Action Plan to enable the parish to meet this vision.  This can be viewed here

Changing Lives: Changing Churches for Changing Communities

The diocese of Bath and Wells, which covers the whole of North Somerset, Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset has its own vision for the future growth of the church in this part of the country. This diocesan initiative (referred to as ‘Changing Lives...’ for short) is informing thinking and action in all aspects of ministry and mission.   In Portishead, in response to this vision, we are committed to creating a new identity for ourselves as the people of God becoming a “ministering congregation”, supporting and resourcing everyone to have a share in the work of the Kingdom of God.  We also recognise that if we are serious about being a Church for our whole town then we need to let go of some of our traditional approaches to, and expectations from, ministry.  We need to become a changed Church to respond to the needs of our changing community.
