Lets Crack This Together

Let’s crack this together!

St. Peter’s Church has stood at the heart of Portishead for over 700 years, underpinning the life of the community. Now St Peter’s needs underpinning! The North West corner has suffered movement that has caused substantial fractures to the walls. Previous generations provided this wonderful building, rebuilt it, repaired it and added to it. Now it’s our turn to make sure it remains standing and fit for purpose for the community of Portishead now and for future generations. Please can you help us gather data for our application for grants by completing the online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/99DPZSW

The church is open from 8.30 am to 6 pm every day. Do go and have a look at it https://share.google/hbRDUz9K45QCBtoNH and see for yourself the 11th-century font, the pulpit dating from 1600, admire the beautiful stained-glass east window from 1866, find the coffin stools donated by Fred Weatherley’s family (of Danny Boy and Roses of Picardy fame) and take time out at the town’s war memorial.

Wander around the cemetery and find the grave of Victor Halliwell, Chief Engineer of ‘Miss England II’, the boat that broke the water speed record in June 1930.
