Embrace the Future Gift Day

Embrace the Future

The Building Development Programme for our churches has been entitled ‘Embrace the Future’, for this is what we are planning to do, to make our places of worship fit for future generations to praise God in, just as past generations have changed them, and passed them on to us.

As the first step in our fundraising efforts for Embrace the Future we are holding a Prayer Vigil starting at 6pm on Friday 3rd February at St Peter's Church, continuing through our Gift Day on Saturday 4th February and ending at 6pm after Evening Praise.

We are asking our congregations and supporters to join us in prayer and share in our vision and take the first step towards embracing the future by making a one-off gift.  We invite you to take time to study the information in this leaflet and on the buildings development programme page, and to prayerfully consider how you can respond.

On 8th January, Andrew Rainsford, the Diocesan Stewardship Advisor from the Diocese of Bath and Wells, spoke at services at both St Peter's and St Nicholas' Churches, in case you missed it, his address is here. Our Team Rector has also preached on the campaign, click here to read his thoughts.

Information packs are available for everyone.   If you would like to receive one then please contact Claire Short, our Campaign Chair, on 01275 848991 or courtshort@tiscali.co.uk and she will arrange for a pack to be sent to you.   Alternatively, you are welcome to visit either church and view the plans we have for our churches and pick up an information pack there.

Articles have also been published in our Parish Magazine over the last few months, see November 2011, December 2011, and January 2012

Of course, if you are not available on the day your gift may be sent to the church office. All gifts will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Our Mission

St Peter's and St Nicholas' churches are the focus of much of our town's heritage and identity.  As our town goes through a time of rapid expansion we want to develop our buildings to support Portishead's future.  Towards this end we need to improve our community facilities so our buildings can provide a better welcome for all who wish to use them, enhance the worship space so that everyone can see and hear, and to carry out essential works to enable these historic buildings to continue to serve our town.

Our Campaign Prayer

Whatever your contribution might be towards our fundraising campaign, please join us in prayer as we move forward in faith and embrace the future.

God of the tides,
in the midst of the ebb and flow of life
help our churches of St Peter and St Nicholas
to be places of welcome, shelter and encouragement,
for all the members of our growing town;
ports to the oceans of your love,
where peace is known and shared,
friendship is forged and sustained,
and the kingdom of heaven is glimpsed on earth.
